Sadly, I don't think there was anything that could have been done to prevent this other than getting this guy psychological help. Gun control has nothing to do with it. If they were completely illegal he still would have gotten them on the black market somehow.

While I am a strong supporter of greater gun control, I'm going to have to side with others on this issue. This is one of those situations where no matter what he was going to kill these students. Nothing was going to stop him from achieving this goal. Might it have hindered him somewhat, sure, but if someone really wants to get a gun they will....unfortunately that's the truth.
I wonder if the NRA will be holding a rally soon at VT?....just like they did after Columbine.

although, Bill O'rilley brought up a point that for once EVERYBODY at least SHOULD agree on: there should be a law that says anybody who has been declared dangerous in the way Cho was should NOT be able to get a gun. doing that certainly wouldn't hurt anything.

Yeah, but there was no way that the store would have known his plans for the gun.

Yeah, exactly. He was only considered "deranged" by his writing teacher, and since he never actually took therapy or harmed anyone then there was no physical record of him being a violent, or violent-minded, person. The ONLY thing that could have been done would have been for the teachers that turned him in for his writings (as well as the councelor) to have taken harsher actions and done something to try to help him. But the thing was, they didn't take it that seriously, which I can see easily happening. I used to have a friend that was all the time writing and drawing evil stuff and dead bodies and stuff like that. According to my perception of him, he would NEVER do anything to harm anyone, he was just kinda eccentric and dark-minded. That doesn't mean that someday he won't go on a killing spree....but I seriously doubt it.

Yeah, dark thoughts, writings, or drawings doesn't mean that the person would do anything to hurt anyone. I mean, I have had bad thoughts, and I was picked on when I was in high school. I thought about doing something bad to the guys who bullied me. I mean, who here who has been picked on has not had any of those thoughts?

well the court ordered him to get help, but that went on his medical records (which are classified), not criminal records. they should fix that little problem is all.

Yeah, Jack has blamed it on video games already, but I read the transcript of Hardball, and it got his theory shot down.

Well, Jack would jump on his theory as soon as he hear someone mention the title of a violent video game.

this whole VT thing is tragic, but now it just annoys me. its a media circus that just prove people love a scandle. my home state (michigan) isbroke ($700,000,000 in the whole), but no one knows.
