i was just curious as to everyone's position on the issue of universal health care, i.e. a health care plan for every American, which would probably require only minimum payments a month, and will keep you insured even if you're only capable of doing part time work.

I think it's fucking awesome. Being a diabetic, that is one of my main complaints with this country. I'm pretty sure that the U.S. is one of the only Industrialized nations in the world that doesn't offer free or universal health care for its citizens. It would be nice if I didn't have to basically pay a house payment for my insulin and test strips every month.

I agree...I'm the boat right now where I'm out of college and was paying $300 a month for independent health care coverage...then my benefits kicked in at work, which was good...however, now I'm kind of stuck in this job because I need to keep my benefits, when there are several part time jobs that would fit what I want to do, and I could make the same money if I had two of them, but I wouldn't have the benefits and would get fucked over. So I'm pretty annoyed by that.

I think universal health care is not only a good moral choice but it is important thing to act on in order to keep jobs in the United States.
If it was up to me all children, students, and any one who pays into social security would get health care. Most people who don’t pay SS get health care anyway or that person is extremely rich and has already paid the SS cap. I would set it up where the government will pay the employer for the lowest health care provider offered in the employee region plus any one over 5% of the lowest bid. . If anyone bothered to pay more per month for a plan that had more frills (cushy rooms, discount on cosmetic surgery, full dental, name brand drugs, no-co-pay, and est.…) then they could take that plan but still get reimbursed for the lowest cost provider plus 5%. I would have a $5 co pay on visits and meds so that there would be a monetary reminder to the customers that this service is not to be abused.
People who say that it would be a bad idea because it would reduce the quality of health care I think are misled. New meds and treatment are not made exclusively by the free American market. The American collage system does a large amount of the medical break thru for American medicines. Also people tend to American people tend to think that we are the only ones finding the cures and treatments for the worlds problems, if for some reason American companies decided to strike and never do medical research again, I would think that the rest of the world would not give up.

You guys know how I'm always saying I'm middle of the road yadda yadda yadda, well this is where the other half comes out. I'm for a universal health care. There, I said it, I'm for that.
Now let me go get a shower, I feel dirty
