So I've applied for a job at Indiana University as a lab technician for their MRI Facility. I'm stressed out, because I really want this job and if I don't get it, I'm going to be very upset! It pays better, is far more interesting, and it adds to my resume for grad school....god I hope I get it, but I applied last Thursday and haven't heard anything back yet...

I hope you get it too. I have applied to jobs, and not got a response back from them for weeks.

I understand that one. I am trying to find a full time position. I am even willing to work overtime.

yeah, I really don't care what type of hours it is if it's something I'll enjoy and will maintain my interest, and at least pays as well as my current job. I'm just getting really pissed off because I have a fucking Bachelor's degree in Psychology and History and I feel that should qualify me for something decent, but it never seems to....all places want previous so many years of experience...it's like where are the fucking positions where you get the initial experience! VERY FRUSTRATED HERE!!!

I've always wondered this same damn thing. How are you supposed to get experience at a job if you have to have previous experience to get the job? As far as the degree; I know many of my friends and people I went to high school with got degrees in Social work and Psychology. I can't think of one of them that got a job doing something with that degree. I know it's just in this area, but there is no demand for those types of jobs. Maybe in a big city but not here. You could do a Transition to Teaching program where you could get your teacher's certificate in one year. Then you could teach Psychology. There will always be a need for teachers and doctors and the such.

The previous job experience is the main problem for me trying to find a better job. I have an associates of Business Management, and over 7 years experience working retail and customer service, and I can't get hired for a full time customer service position. I can't get into management because I don't have any experience, or I didn't want to sit in school any longer getting a Bachelor. I hated school when I was in it.

Well I work with kids right now as a supervisor for the extended day program, and also co-teach a kindergarten program, and one thing I've learned is that it isn't for me at all...plus I want to go into an I/O program next year and in order to get into the better programs I really feel like I need that research experience. My grades are excellent, I have an overall cumulative gpa of 3.6 and a 3.7 in psychology specifically, and my letters of recommendation are quite strong too...but I need that research experience to get in a ph.d program, or into one of the better masters programs. it's frustrating the hell outta me.

Have you ever considered getting a job in the retail and talking to the management about possibly moving up in the company? Like I know when I worked for Marsh Supermarkets in high school and there was one guy who started as a bag boy, but told the management that he wanted to be a manger, so they enlisted him in this manager in training program.

Yeah, I tried to. I have applied to retail establishments, and tried to get promoted at Target. Target didn't have a Management Training Program, and I was declined for promotions by managers and I was told it was because the manager felt he couldn't communicate with me.
